Metallic braces have been the go-to option for correcting dental misalignments, crooked teeth, and crowded teeth for decades, yet there are many myths and misconceptions surrounding these braces that can cause confusion and unnecessary worry. These misconceptions can prevent people from seeking the treatment they need, so it is essential to debunk them. Here are some of the most common myths surrounding metallic braces and the truth behind them.

Myth 1: Braces are only for children

Many people think that braces are only suitable for children, but this is not true. Metallic braces can be beneficial for people of all ages, as long as their teeth and gums are healthy. More and more adults and teenagers are getting braces these days.

Myth 2: Metallic Braces are painful

While braces can cause some discomfort, they are not usually painful. After the braces are initially put on, there may be some soreness as the teeth start to move, but this is temporary and can be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers.

Myth 3: Metallic braces will interfere with daily activities like eating and speaking.

At first, patients may have to do some adjustment with the braces but after some time most patients can eat and speak normally with little to no interference from the braces. They may need to avoid certain foods that are hard or sticky, but this is a small inconvenience compared to the benefits of having straighter teeth.

Myth 4: Metallic braces will set off metal detectors.

Metallic braces indeed contain metal but they are not large enough to set off metal detectors. Patients with braces can safely go through metal detectors at airports and other security checkpoints without any issues.

Myth 5: Braces take years to work

The duration of orthodontic treatment varies from person to person, but it typically takes between 12 and 24 months for braces to work. In some cases, treatment may take longer, but advancements in orthodontic technology have made treatment times shorter than ever before.

Myth 6: Braces are only for cosmetic purposes

Braces can certainly improve the appearance of a person’s smile, but they also have many other benefits. Misaligned teeth can cause jaw pain, headaches, and difficulty chewing, and braces can help correct these issues.

Myth 7: Metal braces will rust

This is a common misconception that many believe that a combination of metal and water will rust the braces. The material that is used to create metal braces will not rust ever because these are made with titanium alloy, which keeps them away from rusting. You can wear your braces without any worry of rusting.

Myth 8: Metallic Braces are very costly

This is the most pervasive and biggest myth regarding braces. People believe that metal braces cost a huge amount but compared to any other country the cost of treatment in India is very less. So if you need the treatment you should not stop yourself from getting it.

Conclusion

Metallic braces are a safe, effective, and affordable way to correct dental misalignments. While many myths and misconceptions surround them, it is essential to remember that these are often unfounded and can be easily debunked. Don’t let myths and misconceptions prevent you from seeking the treatment you need for a healthy, beautiful smile.
